What Car Commercials Need to Focus on is Creating an Emotional Connection

It isn’t always what you sell, but how you sell it.

Car commercials can be so mundane and consumers tend to zone out unless you give them a reason not to, in today’s world, commercials that go beyond naming the price and shooting every angle of  the car over and over again are gaining traction.

We all know what cars look like, we will also know which car we want based on the sizing up we will do on the Internet. What car commercials need to focus on is WHY your car over others. This comes back to what I often refer to as being relatable and focusing on the emotional connection.

This specific commercial for the Honda Civic taps into creativity which makes us (the consumers) smile. This smile is based on the effort we see in what Honda puts into the commercial by using people, not the machine to sell the car. It is not about WHAT car anymore, it is about WHY THAT car…if something moves you in any way emotionally, you will tend to relate to it more, therefore you are more likely to choose the car that makes you feel something, that is where people will make the choice to spend their money.

Obviously Honda is aware that people are more interested in feeling something than being sold something, remember today people WANT choices, it is up to you to help them choose by humanizing your product, no matter what it is you sell.  As you can see in this video, being different by stepping outside the mold can grab attention, after all, customers will still go to a website prior to that large purchase to find out the details anyways, just give them the REASON to go to yours.
